DeBose, Jason
Doubtlessly a reflection of his work and background in filmmaking, the photographic artwork of Jason DeBose presents a unification of the visual balance and order that give the frames of motion pictures their compelling quality. The dynamic environments in which he has lived and worked include Los Angeles, New York, Tallinn and Helsinki.

Selki Fabrikin juuret löytyvät  pienestä  eteläsuomalaisesta Selin kylästä. Tänä päivänä työhuoneemme sijaitsee Helsingissä. Huopahattu- ja huivimallistossamme  perinteiset valmistustekniikat yhdistyvät  ajankohtaisiin muotoihin ja väreihin. Haluamme tuoda kestävää muotoilua jokapäiväiseen elämään ja meille on tärkeää, että tuotteemme valmistetaan lähellä. Toivomme, että Selki-asusteet tuovat iloa jokaiseen päivääsi!

Selki Fabrik has its roots in a small village of Selki in southern Finland. Nowadays we are located in Helsinki.  In our collection of hats and scarves we combine traditional techniques with contemporary shapes and colours. We produce individual high quality accessories designed by Finnish textile designers. We wish to be able to bring joy into every moment of Your day!




Fiilin, Juha
 Maalaamani henkilöhahmot ja eläimet ovat ystäviäni, toiset eksyksissä ja toiset elementissään. Nämä teemat syntyvät sisäisen maailmani ja alati vaihtuvan ulkomaailman törmäyksestä urbaanissa sekä ruraalissa ympäristössä niin Barcelonassa kuin Heinolan maalaiskunnassa. Käytän kierrätettyjä materiaaleja ekologisista sekä esteettisistä syistä: pohjina toimivat skeittilaudat; vinyylilevyt ja kannet; puiset viinilaatikot, vanerilevyt, paperi, pahvi sekä seinät.

The characters and animals in my painting are my friends, some in their element and some not. Themes raise from the crash between my world and the changing surroundings in urban and rural enviroment. I work in Barcelona and Heinola countryside and use recycled materials for ecological and esthetic reasons.



Goodwin, Marc
I am always a bit reluctant to describe or define my work, but there are one or two points I would like to communicate.  All images were shot on large format film with natural light because detail, colour, light and time are central concerns to my work, together with spatial considerations and the personal narratives that create places out of locations.  Shot in two contiguous homes that were abandoned after a family feud over inheritance, this is as much a family portrait as a study of the material qualities of these places.  Both aspects--the story and the seductive quality of these interior spaces--kept me returning to photograph these abandoned storage spaces that used to be peoples' homes during the course of a year.

Before starting to work on a canvas, I sketch and research the colors of each image that I paint, making sure that the composition, color and contrasts respect the feeling that I get from the subject landscape. To create the rough and texture feel to my work, I combine different techniques and mediums (acrylic paint, ink, raw pigments, gels, oil pastels and crayons). I draw upon all of these to achieve the depth and character of my canvases.

Ennen maalamisen aloittamista tutkin jokaisen taulun kompositiota ja väriasteikkoa. Näin väri ja kontrastit noudattavat maalauksen aiheeseen liittyviä tunteita. Sekoitan erilaisia tekniikoita ja aineita luodakseni maalauksiini sopivan tekstuurin, syvyyden sekä luonteen (akryyli, muste, raakapigmentti, geeli, öljypastelli tai väriliitu).

Hynynen, Eric
Taide merkitsee minulle paljon. Se on henkisen kasvun ja itseilmaisun areena. Taide tarjoaa tilan uusien arvojen muotoutumiselle. Minulle on tärkeää, että ympäröivä yhteiskunta heijastuu ja kaikuu taiteeseeni. Toisaalta taide on myös vapauden etsintää, kapinaa ja protesteja. Taiteen tulee olla irrationaalisen ja surrealistisen turvapaikka.

For me art is many things. It is an arena for self-growth and expression; art provides a space for the formation of new values. Art must respond to and reflect the society we live in. Art is a quest for freedom, an act of rebellion and protest. It is a sanctuary for the irrational and the surreal.



Häkkinen, Henri
Muotokuvamaalauksissani pyrin tuomaan takaisin edesmenneitä ja unohtumattomia kasvoja modernin maalauksen keinoin. Tavoitteeni on minimoida yksityiskohdat ja keskittyä sen kautta olennaisiin ja selkeisiin muotoihin luodakseni tunnistettavan vaikutelman. Tässä sarjassa työskentelen kolmevärisellä paletilla.

I dive deep into modern portrait painting bringing back to life some dead but not forgotten characters. My aim is to minimize the details and concentrate on the most recognizable shapes in order to create an impression of familiarity. In this series I work with a three-color palette.




Iivanainen, Susanna
Maalaus on minun tapani ottaa kantaa maailmaan. Käsittelen töissäni ihmisenä olemista  ja itseäni kiinnostavia asioita, kuten ihmisen suhdetta luontoon ja ympäröivään todellisuuteen. Viime vuosina työni ovat pääasiallisesti liittyneet veteen, mutta uusimmissa töissäni käsittelen myös muita elementtejä. Toivon maalausteni tuovan esiin jotakin sellaista mitä ei suoraan voi purkaa sanoiksi.

Painting is my way of expressing my vision of the world. I deal with the themes that have to do with the nature and reality surrounding us. A few last years my works have been mainly about water and the sea, but recently I`ve become interested in other elements as well. I hope my paintings can visualize something  beyond the words, something that one can`t put into exact words.



Jansson, Sebastian
Sebastian Jansson is one of the most recognized young Finnish designers, currently based in New York. His continued studies have led to making his project experiences and research expand across Europe. He has a degree in Master of European Design, completing a training period in Milan at Politecnico di Milano and in Paris at ENSCI-Les Ateliers University. As a leading student at the Aalto University, School of Design, Jansson's profile encompasses a previously completed military service with the Finnish Defence Forces. This experience has helped him refine a number of skills such as precision and a strong sense of discipline.

He has developed innovative concepts for brands and companies such as Activeark, Arkitekturum, Kaffa Roastery, Kanniston Bakery, restaurant Kipsari,  caf√© La Torrefazione, MinottiItalia, Purple Workshop, Readymade Projects Inc, Stavellan Inc and Talenco Trading. In the meanwhile he is continiously developing self initiated conceptual transdisciplinary design. In 2010 Jansson and his collgeagues won the second prize with the Piezo Shower of the 1st Edition of SaloneSatellite Awards at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
 



Kajas, Ossi
Haluan tehdä monikerroksellisia visuaalisia teoksia, joiden yksityiskohdat muodostavat värikkään kokonaiskuvan ympäröivästä maailmastamme.

I want to create a piece of multilayered visual works in which the details together compose a colorful general picture about/from/of our surrounding world.

Poola Kataryna products are fresh and beautiful. Inspiration for the design comes from weird dreams and the mysticality of birds. Poola Kataryna aims to do original and innovative design with an ecological twist.

Koshiba, Hiroaki
Hiroaki Koshiba is a Japanese artist travelling internationally. His inspiration comes out of music – hence Koshiba works with well known musicians. Hiroaki will showcase a live painting perfomance at Factory Superstars and the piece that is created will be for sale at Factory Superstars.

Kärkkäinen, Jouko

Minulle suomalainen puu on luovuuden väline. Materiaali, joka on monisyistä, helposti työstettävää, saatavaa ja kierrätettävää. Puu on suostuvainen käytännölliseksi esineeksi tai vallattomaksi taideteokseksi. Näen puussa voimaa, vastuuta ja viisautta. Töideni taustalla ovat luonnon kunnioitus, materiaalituntemus ja innovatiiviset työstömenetelmät. Etualalle työntyvät nykypäivän haasteet ja oman aikamme moderni ilmaisu. Use wood, feel good!

Finnish wood is a creative tool for me. Material, which is versatile, easy to machine and it has certain availability. Wood is recyclable and transformable. Wood has ability to change and be a functional object or a coltish artwork.
My works based on the respect of the nature, knowledge of the material and on the innovative working methods. In the front line there are challenges of the present days and the modern expression of our time. Use wood, feel good!

Laitinen, Tuomas
Tuomas Laitinen on Suomalainen kansainvälisesti tunnustettu kuvataiteilija jonka teoksia on nähty Suomesta Australiaan. Tuomaksen video-editioita on myynnissä Factory Superstarsissa.

Tuomas Laitinen is an internationally recognised Finnish visual artist whose pieces have been exhibite from Finland to Australia. Editions of Laitinen’s video art prouctions will be on sale at Factory Superstars.




Lorenzo, Alejandro

Alejandro Lorenzo on Barcelonasta kotoisin oleva kuvataiteilija joka on asunut Suomessa vuodesta 2005. Lorenzon taiteellinen motivaatio syntyy ihmisyydestä ja ihmisyyden kuvauksesta. Lorenzon teokset menevät lähelle ja kuvaavat sielua uudella tavalla.

Alejandro Lorenzo is a Barcelonian artist based in Helsinki and has been in Finland since 2005. Lorenzo’a artistic motivation is born out of humanity. His depictions of humanity create images that are close-ups of a persons soul, depicting it in new ways.

Pulli, Mirjam
Pikku-lapsesta lähtien olen koko elämäni piirtänyt/maalannut kuvia. Se on ollut spontaani tiedostamaton sisäinen tarve, joka aikaa myöten on kehkeytynyt tietoiseksi haluksi kehittää taiteellista lahjakkuuttani  (mikä on suoranainen velvollisuus kaiken lahjakkuuden suhteen )!    Ajoittain tämä ilmaisun tarve on ollut erittäin intensiivistä  -  sitä mukaa kuin sisäiset prosessit vaativat näkyvää muotoa tullakseen "kuulluiksi" .

Since my early childhood I have been doing pictures all my life.  It has been a spontaneous inner urge which with time has developed a conscious desire to evolve my artistic talent  (the duty with any talent - )!   At times this urge to create has been very intense following the demands of the inward  processies to find a conreate appearance, a form to be  "heard".
 



Poppius, Olga
Poppius on taidevalokuvaaja joka on kuvannut valon heijastusta kolmen vuoden ajan Miamin South Beachilla. Suomeen Poppius on palannut talvella 2010.

Olga Poppius has studied the ways the light is reflected off the surface of South Beach Miami for almost three years. She was awed by the way the local pastel coloured buildings reflect it in all shades of gold – especially in the early hours of the morning.

Se, mikä tulee luonnostaan, on minulle välttämätöntä toteuttaa, enkä pyri tietoisesti manipuloimaan ajatuksiani tai ideoitani- niinpä varsinaiset ”neronleimaukset”, jotka tuotan fyysisiksi objekteiksi, ovat harvassa ja oman itsekriittisen seulani läpi niitä pääsee vain viisi – kuusi vuodessa, joskin tuohon määrään olen varsin tyytyväinen. Paljon siis jää luonnoskirjojen sivuille. Syntynyt ajatus määrää median, sillä teoksen toteutus antaa sille sen, mitä kutsun visuaaliseksi semiotiikaksi; olen tyytyväinen teokseen, jos voin tuoda kuvallisesti esille jotakin sellaista mitä sanoin ei voi ilmaista. Paitsi että tekniikka liittyy teokseen sisällöllisesti, on materiaalien oltava myös tiukasti kosketuksissa ajatukseen. Se on kaiken a ja o, minulle ehdotonta kuvataiteilijan etiikkaa. Minimalistinen, konseptualistinen ilmaisu on minulle ominta. Pyrin eliminoimaan kaiken mikä on tarpeetonta, ja parhaissa tapauksissa toteutuksen tiukkuus muuttuu sen sisällöksi.

Olen kuvataiteilija, joka yhdistää töissään valokuvaa, serigrafiaa, piirustusta ja maalausta. Taiteessani toistuu usein näyttämömäinen tila ja siellä esiintyvä dekoratiivinen viiva. Olen aikaisemmin käyttänyt töissäni koruja ja korujenkäyttäjiä aiheina. Ajatellessani kolmiuloitteisia teen myös käytettäviä korua. Koru on mukana kulkeva veistos, joka saa liikkeen ja elämän käyttäjältä.

I am visual artist and my main techniques are photography, screen printing, drawing and painting. The space in my art is like a stage with a decorative line performing on it. My works have earlier been inspired by jewelry and those who are bejeweled. When I think three-dimensionally, I make wearable jewelry. A piece of jewelry is a portable sculpture that gets its movements and life from the user.
  



Riestola, Anu
Olen onnellinen kun ilmaisen itseäni kuvallisesti. Silloin, kun olen tekemisen imussa, kaikki muu tuntuu toisarvoiselta. Maalaaminen on minulle tärkein tekniikka kuvataiteessa. Olen tehnyt myös sekatekniikkatöitä ja kollaaseja. Viimeisimmät maalaukseni olen maalannut spray-maaleilla, ne ovat graffitinomaisia. Nykyisten töideni aihepiiri käsittelee silmiä ja näkemistä. Voimakkaat värit ovat minulle tärkeitä.

I am happy and contended when I express myself in artistic way. When I am in the flow of making fine art, everything else seems to be irrelevant. Painting is the most important technique for me in fine arts. I have also done works in mixed media. Latest works I have done with spray-paints. They remind graffiti-paintings from the streets.Eyes and seeing are the subjects of my recent paintings. Strong colours are essential to me.

Aloin työstämään Gupla Artframes –sarjaa vuonna 2005 kun oivalsin löytäneeni itselleni luonnollisen keinon ilmaista taiteen kautta itseäni sekatekniikalla  kierrätysesineitä hyödyntäen. Tämä oivallus vapautti vihdoin kulkemaan omaa tietä myös taiteen saralla. Haluan löytää ja jakaa oivalluksia antamatta ulkopuolelta tuleville rajoitteille tai määreille jalansijaa.

I started to design Gupla Artframes - series created in 2005 -  when I realized that I had found natural means to express myself, via art, by using mixed technique and recycled materials.  Finally this realization allowed me to make my own way of art. I want to find and, at the same time, share insights without giving foothold to external constraints or dictations.




Sammalisto, Vesa
Vesa Sammalisto is a Helsinki-based illustrator and designer. He has graduated (BA) from University of Art and Design Helsinki.
Vesa has background as a graphic designer in one of the top advertising agencies in Finland.

Currently Vesa is pushing his career as a freelancer and he is always after interesting projects, illustration and design.







Sandelin, Sebastian

Finnish designer Sebastian Sandelin (b. 1983) works in his own studio in
Helsinki, Finland. Armed with a passion for style and quality, and a
discerning eye for form and material, Sebastian has a history of numerous
interior design projects & art and design exhibitions in Finland and
Luxembourg.

He recently finished his degree in industrial design, with a minor in
architecture, from Aalto University School of Art and Design in Helsinki.

Tuon maailmani esiin kuvina. Niiden kautta on ollut helpompi ilmaista itsenäni ja tuntemuksiani. Odotan, että kuva tulee luokseni. En suunnittele niitä etukäteen luonnostellen, enkä rakentaen. Kuvani löytyvät läheltä, kodistani, lähimmistä ihmisistäni, metsistä, hylätyistä taloista, julkisilta paikoita tai ulkomaanmatkoiltani. Melkein mistä vaan voi tulla "minun kuvani". Harvoin muutan mitään kuvauskohteessani, annan sen kertoa, miten se kuvataan.

My wold is in the pictures. For me it is easier to express myself through pictures. I expect for the picture to come to me and I do not plan them in advance by sketching or building models. My photos can be found nearby my home and can be about the people nearest to me, forests, abandoned houses, the public or traveling. My photos can become anywhere. I rarely change anything in the setting of the subjects, I rather let the subject or object tell me how it should be portrayed.
